How do I become a Christian?
We believe there is HOPE for everyone through Jesus Christ. We would like to ask you this question:

In your opinion, what do you understand it takes for a person to go to Heaven?

We would like to share with you how the Bible answers this question:
F We cannot have eternal live and heaven without God's Forgiveness. "In Him [meaning Jesus] we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins." (Ephesians 1:7)

A

Forgiveness is Available for all...For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).... but forgiveness is not automatic. "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 7:21a)

I

It is Impossible for God to allow sin into heaven.
-> God is Love (John 3:16)
->However, He is also just.."For judgment is without mercy"

 (James 2:13a).
-> Man is sinful..."For all have sinned and fall short of the
        glory of God"
(Romans 3:23)
But how can a sinful person enter heaven, where God allows no sin?

T

Turn means repent.
-> Turn from something - sin and self..."But unless you
repent you will all likewise perish"
(Luke 13:3b)
->Turn to Someone; trust Christ only. The Bible tells us...
"Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and
that He was buried, and that He rose again the third
          day according to the Scriptures"
  (1 Corinthians 15:3b-4)
(Romans 10:9) says..."If you confess with your mouth
the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has
raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

H

Heaven is eternal life.
->Here - "I have come that they may have life, and that
they may have it more abundantly"
(John 10:10b)
->Hereafter - "And I go and prepare a place for you, I will
come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am,
         there you may be also"
(John 14:3b)

FAITH as explained above is what is meant by the terms "salvation" "saved" or "born again".

Salvation is a free gift but like any other gift, it's not yours until you "accept it" through Christ.

How to accept this free gift through Christ:

Admit your need (I am a sinner).
Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross and rose from the grave and be willing to turn from your sins (repent).
Through prayer, invite Jesus Christ to come in and control your life through the Holy Spirit. (Receive Him as your Savior).

What to Pray:

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am sinful and I need Your forgiveness.  I believe that You died to pay the penalty for my sin.  I want to turn from my sin nature and follow You instead.  I invite You to come into my heart and life.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.

If you sincerely prayed this prayer and asked Jesus Christ to come into your life you are now a Christian.

So what's next?

Seek out a healthy well balanced Christian Church,
share your decision with the Pastor and following Christ's example, ask for baptism by immersion in your local church as a public expression of your faith (Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:6). If you live in the De Soto Mo. area we would love to see you worshiping and serving at First Baptist of DeSoto.
God will use the talents and gifts He gave you and enrich your life if you let Him.
